Chapter 5: Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders

Treatment

How is advanced sleep phase disorder (ASPD) treated?

Treatment of ASPD is difficult and data are limited. While some studies demonstrate the success of evening light therapy (2,500 lux from 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM, or 4,000 lux from 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM),1-2 other studies demonstrate a lack of effect.3 No data exists on the efficacy of early morning melatonin administration.
